On Día de las Islas Baleares, the Balearic Islands celebrate their National Day. Festivities in the context of art and culture take place around 1st of March to celebrate the Statute of Autonomy of this region of Spain, which was passed in 1983.
The activities and celebrations build up a week before and reach their peak on 1st of March. All the senses will be spoiled in the Mallorcan way during this week: for example, the traditional cuisine will be presented in the Sa Feixina park in Palma, gastronomic routes and a farmers' market will be held in the Passeig Sagrera in Palma, among other places. At this market you can find products of the local gastronomy and artisanal crafts. Drink a hierbas, the ancient Mallorcan herbal liqueur, and enjoy traditional music and dances! The most important public buildings, museums and emblematic places of the islands open their doors and let visitors explore the history of Mallorca. There will be exhibitions, readings, sporting events, concerts, guided tours of the city and workshops that are not limited to the capital Palma, but can be found all over the island.
