Shopping in Mallorca
Mallorca is a shopping paradise, you can't call it anything else! The island is visited by millions of tourists every year, for whom shopping is simply part of the holiday pleasure. Of course the big Spanish brands such as Zara, Massimo Dutti, Mango and Bershka as well as local manufacturers of leather goods, jewellery and handicrafts profit from this.
Palma is the Mecca for shoppers. The big international brands dominate the streets of Jaime III and the Borne, but countless small and large shops and boutiques can be found in the winding side streets of the city centre. You can stroll for hours and there is something for everyone, young and old, every taste and every budget.
If you are specifically looking for locally produced goods, it is best to go to the respective locations of the manufacturers: for leather goods, this is Inca, where a number of leather goods manufacturers also run factory shops and outlets such as Camper, Lottusse etc. Manacor is the centre of the furniture manufacturers in Mallorca, here you will find a wide range of showrooms and factory outlets.
Luxury shopping in Palma
As already mentioned, Palma has a large number of shops to choose from. In recent years, many luxury brands have discovered Palma as a location and opened shops. Not to be overlooked is Louis Vuitton with its chic shop directly on the Paseo del Borne in the palace Can Alomar (es.louisvuitton.com). Right next door is the old-established jewellery shop Relojería Alemana, the first address for lovers of expensive watches and high-quality jewellery (www.relojeriaalemana.com/es). On the Borne, you will also find shops by Hugo Boss (www.hugoboss.com/es/home), Carolina Herrera (www.carolinaherrera.com/es/es) etc. And those who like to buy expensive jewellery directly in the brand boutique have the choice between Cartier on the Avenida Jaime III (www.cartier.es) and the shop in the shop of Bulgari in the big Corte Inglés (www.bulgari.com/es-es).
El Corte Inglés
A classic among tourists and residents as well as the locals. Founded in 1940, the company operates throughout Spain and has two department stores in Mallorca. The "small" Corte Inglés is located in the heart of the shopping mile, right on the Jaime III. Here you will find mainly cosmetics, leather goods and fashion as well as a small supermarket. The "big" Corte Inglés is located on the Avenidas, close to the Plaza España and the train station. Of course, it also offers fashion, shoes and accessories, but also jewellery, household goods, furniture, electronics, in short, everything your heart desires (www.elcorteingles.es)!
Shopping Center
Porto Pi, the first classic shopping centre opened in 1995 and is still the first address for many. Due to its location on the western outskirts of the city, it is ideal for all residents of the southwest coast, even from Puerto Andratx you can reach it in under 20 minutes. It is also the only shopping centre that offers the brands of Inditex, i.e. Zara, Zara Home, Massimo Dutti etc. Porto Pi also has a large Carrefour, Müller Market, Phonehouse and a number of bars and restaurants (www.portopicentro.es).
Only a few years ago Fan Mallorca was opened. Located in the immediate vicinity of the airport, this shopping centre has a very special charm as it is open-air. A large number of shops, including Primark, Decathlon, Media Markt and Carrefour are complemented by cinemas, bars and restaurants (www.fanmallorca.com).
Mallorca Fashion Outlet
A list of the shopping possibilities in Mallorca would not be complete without a mention of this outlet. Here you can find big discounts on last season's collections, as well as a nice selection of restaurants and cinemas to turn shopping into a day trip. Here you can find Spanish designers like Adolfo Dominguez, Jaime Mascaró, Desigual or Pepe Jeans but also international brands like Lacoste, Calvin Klein, Superdry and Tommy Hilfiger (mallorcafashionoutlet.com).
Weekly Markets
The weekly markets are an institution on the island, popular with young and old. Here everything is sold, what ever you need or don't need. Leather goods, souvenirs, jewelry, household goods, but also fresh fruits and vegetables, local specialties, flowers, etc. In the southwest of the island there are two markets during the week, each from 9 to 14 o'clock, on Monday in Calviá and on Wednesday in Andratx.
However, those who prefer a more traditional market are well advised to visit the Wednesday market in Sineu. This is the only market on Mallorca where live animals are sold, goats, donkeys, pigs and so on, a great experience especially for children!
The Saturday market in Santa Maria also attracts a lot of visitors. It has a large number of food stalls and also has a section where organic produce from local producers are on sale.
