Location
Son Macià is an idyllic village that belongs to the municipality of Manacor and is located just about 15 from the city center of Manacor. The well-kept village offers some bars and restaurants at its large village square. The coast with small bathing bays can also be reached in less than 15 minutes. The nearest sports harbors Porto Cristo and Porto Colom can be reached in about 20 minutes. One of the famous wineries of Mallorca is located in the immediate vicinity of the village. The patronal feast is celebrated in honor of the Virgin Mary on August 15, Assumption of Mary.
Manacor in the east of Mallorca
Manacor is the namesake town, of the municipality of the same name, in the eastern part of Mallorca. The municipality is one of the five historic sub-regions that make up the Levante Mallorquín region and includes the population centers of Manacor, Porto Cristo, S'Illot-Cala Morlanda, Calas de Mallorca, Son Macià, Cala Anguila-Cala Mandía, Cala Murada, Cala Romántica, Son Talent, Son Mas and Sa Marineta. In 2019, Manacor was the third most populous municipality on the island and the second largest in terms of surface area. 20% of the surface of the municipality is still forested. The town of Manacor was once founded by the Moors. In this rural municipality there are several archaeological sites such as the Dolmen de Son Vaquer or natural and artificial caves that served as burial places, such as Es Picots Negres des Fangar. Today, Manacor is one of the "industrial" centers of Mallorca, highlighting furniture manufacturing and pearl manufactures. But also the pottery and the production of liqueurs and wines are still important. The municipality is also known for its caves, such as the Coves del Drac at Porto Cristo, and the numerous beaches and coves along the coast.
