Detailed Information
Location
The name Alaró is of Arabic origin and comes from Oloron, the old agricultural area of the area. The fort of Alaró was the main center of Muslim resistance during the reconquest of Mallorca in 1229 by King Jaime I. The nearest town, to the south of Alaró, less than 10 minutes by car, is called Santa María del Camí.
The area around Alaro is popular with locals and foreigners alike and is considered one of the most prestigious addresses. Santa Maria del Cami is a typical Mallorcan village in the wide plain between Palma and the Tramuntana mountains. The bustling little village offers bars, restaurants and stores of all kinds as well as one of the most famous weekly markets in Mallorca on the large market square. The successful Macia Batle winery is located on the outskirts of the village. Palma is only about 15 minutes away by car and the airport can be reached in about 20 minutes.
